Essential Care products for Curly Hair Extensions

To get the best out of your curly or textured extensions, it’s worth investing in high-quality hair products. Cheaper alternatives often contain harsh ingredients that can dry out or damage the hair, reducing both the look and lifespan of your extensions.

Also keep in mind: the tighter your curl pattern, the more moisture your hair will need. Curly and coily textures are naturally drier, so maintaining a moisture-rich routine is essential to keeping your hair soft, defined, and manageable.

Follow this step-by-step guide for the best results:

Detangling brush

The only brush you should use to detangle on curly hair extensions. Make sure you get this specific version.

Detangling Spray

Always detangle thoroughly before shampooing to minimise breakage and prevent matting.

Moisturising Shampoo

Use a hydrating & moisturising shampoo designed for textured hair to gently cleanse without stripping away essential moisture. Remember to avoid products containing protein.

Bonding Conditioner

After shampooing, gently pat the hair dry with a towel. Apply your bonding conditioner and leave it on for 3–5 minutes to nourish deeply. Use your Tangle Teezer to distribute the product evenly.

Deep Conditioning Mask

Lightly rinse out the bonding conditioner and follow with a moisture-rich mask. Brush through again, leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Leave in conditioner

After towel drying, apply a leave-in conditioner to retain moisture and keep your curls soft and manageable.

finishing serum

The last but very crucial step.Seal in moisture and add shine with a lightweight serum or bonding oil.

Styling tips & bedtime care

Style while damp: After your wash routine, apply your curl crème, mousse, or gel while the hair is damp (not soaking wet). Brush through thoroughly with your detangling brush to ensure even product distribution before drying. This helps define your curls and makes the styling process much easier.

Blow-dry or diffuse until 100% dry: Use a diffuser or blow dryer on a low heat setting to fully dry your extensions. This helps maintain curl definition and prevents frizz or tangling.

Avoid air drying:
Do not rely on air drying. (It can take hours for curly extensions to fully dry this way, and during that time, friction from movement or contact with fabrics can lead to matting and frizz.)

Never sleep on wet or damp hair: Always ensure your extensions are completely dry before going to bed. Sleeping on damp hair can cause tangling, matting, and long-term damage.

Sleep in a silk bonnet or on a silk pillowcase:
Silk helps reduce friction, frizz, and moisture loss—unlike cotton, which can cause dryness and breakage in textured hair.

– If your curls aren’t styled or defined, gently braid the hair into two loose plaits before bed.

– If your curls are already set, gather the hair into a high bun using a soft scrunchie, then cover with a large silk bonnet.

Avoid sleeping with hair loose on a cotton pillowcase, as cotton causes friction and frizz, especially for textured hair.
